Moments

Madelyn? Moments.

If you would have told little Madelyn that she would graduate high school carrying a camera around her neck, she’d think you’re silly! But today, it’s so much more than a camera. It’s an experience and a vibrant passion. The little girl with the camera stands next to the version of herself she has always dreamed of. And so as I walked across that graduation stage, camera dangling, I thought of the girl on the left. She’d be so proud of me. We built this, we did it.

I began “Moments by Madelyn” my sophomore year of high school. Covid had just hit and I wanted something to fill my time, so I joined the yearbook club. Immediately they said they needed a photographer and I sprung at that chance. They gave me a standard camera and I took pictures at my very first game a day later… girl’s soccer, the beginning of it all.

The pictures were just about as good as you’d think they’d be. I was just a baby photographer then; I was eager to learn and grow. Moving forward, I went to every home game we had at my high school. I devoted countless hours to those pictures and committed to doing something that made me happy. I felt such a high from capturing these moments, but something was missing. I realized I was the only one with access. Covid disrupted many things, and for the athletes, they lost their fans. I was often the only fan there, along with the parents (in limited numbers). I realized I had an opportunity in front of me, to both share my work and provide a Covid-safe fan space. This is when I created my infamous Instagram account, @momentsbymadelyn.

I was extremely nervous to put my work out there. I contemplated for days about whether this would be a bust or not. And when I finally hit that create button I screamed in the living room with my Mom. It’s now three years later and I’m screaming in the same living room while creating my very own website.

Moments by Madelyn means everything to me. I’ve worked so hard to build a platform that displays community and passion. Photography has made me a better person in so many ways. It has nurtured patience, diligence, creativity, and selflessness. This job allows me to not only be creative, but to also share it with you all. Being the client is equally as important as being the photographer. It is a privilege to take pictures. To say that I love what I do is an understatement.

Me, present day, shooting for UNH. My wildest dreams coming to life. I wake up grateful every single day.
